Keeping Your AC Condenser Free of Debris

Keeping Your AC Condenser Free of Debris

Fall can be hard on your air conditioning unit because a lot of debris can get into it. One part in particular is very prone to debris buildup, and that’s your air conditioner’s condenser unit. In this post, American Refrigeration Heating and Air Conditioning Co., Inc., a leading cooling services expert, shares how you can keep your air conditioning condenser free of debris.

Prep your air conditioner for winter. You won’t be using your air conditioning unit as much as winter nears, so you can turn the power off and clean the inside of your air conditioning unit with very little inconvenience to  yourself. Depending on the style and shape of your unit, you can usually  sweep out the interior of the air conditioner by opening or removing the side panel. Make sure that you sweep or vacuum loose debris out of the interior, and rake any leaves or debris two feet away from the air conditioner’s bas

Use an air conditioner cover. HVAC contractors strongly recommend using an air conditioner cover to protect the entire unit throughout the off-season. This will prevent debris and leaves from getting inside the unit during the fall and winter months. This will also help protect against dust and dirt accumulation and aid in eliminating rust, which can compromise the integrity of the air conditioning unit.

Using an exterior filter. A long-term solution would be to install a wraparound filter for your air conditioning unit to prevent debris from getting inside it. It’s also an affordable solution which can reduce the amount of allergens, dirt and dust that can build up on the blades of the exchanger on the outdoor portion of your AC unit.
