You can tell if reviews are fake when they’re submitted in bursts – that is, several reviews posted over a short period. Usually, this happens when a contractor receives a bad review and wants to raise the average.
Bad Reviews That Praise Competitors
When customers receive poor service from a contractor, their reviews tend to focus on their bad experiences with the contractor in question rather than praise a competitor. If one or several negative reviews praise heavily on a competitor, it’s more than likely it was left by that same contractor.
Vague Reviews
Fake reviews are not as descriptive as the real ones. Real customers explain the issues they had and how the contractor helped them. They may also mention the name of the HVAC technician whom they worked with. Even customers who are dissatisfied with a contractor’s work would leave details as to why, instead of vague comments.
Overly Using Technical Terms
If a positive review reads like a marketing copy, it probably is. An average person wouldn’t use too much technical or HVAC-specific jargon when leaving a review. They also won’t be overly emotional or mention the company name more than a few times. It should read like it was written by a typical customer, not like a promotional ad.
